The greatest comeback in Los Angeles Kings history took place on April 10, 1982. Known as the Miracle on Manchester, this event will always be remembered by the hardcore LA Kings fans.

With the 30th anniversary of the “miracle on ice” (1980 USA over USSR) all over tv during the Vancouver Olympics, and seeing hockey fans like “Jamie Farr – Klinger” who where lucky enough to see it live, I think back to the game I was luck enough to have a ticket too back as a teenager and So Cal. hockey player and fan. My buddy Steve and I drove from OC to the forum just as we had 100 times before. We even had a spot reserved for us at the Midas Muffler shop for like $3 a game… and the scalped tickets given away CHEAP by season ticket holders who often NEVER came, were almost as cheap to pick up on the street as you walked to the arena. I was NOT a Kings fan… but loved NHL hockey and wore an Oilers Jersey to the game. Steve had tried to convert me preaching the pathetic gospel of the hapless Kings to no avail. After the game, I was the biggest Kings fan in the world and even got a spot in the LA times sports section as the fan who dragged a tattered Edmonton Oilers Jersey from his back bumper on the 2 hour trek out of WILD Inglewood on our way to the 405 and a drive home. If I remember right.. not only were the Kings down 5-0 after 2 periods.. I think they were down 5-0 with like 10 minutes left… hundreds of fans had left the building and we often taunted them by shaking our heads and calling out “Dodger Fans… Go Home !” Not many sports moments like that one… and it takes a back seat to the Miracle on Ice, for sure… But that was a night I will NEVER forget… I will always be a Kings fan. ALWAYS!
