Dancing in the Reign: Ottawa places Cheechoo on Waivers; Interest from Kings?

12 Feb, 2010 | by Alex

The Ottawa Senators announced earlier today that they had placed Jonathan Cheechoo on waivers. As the Kings look to add more depth to their roster for the playoff push, is this a possibility? Since Justin Williams went down with a broken leg, the Kings have been sniffing around for a replacement winger. Cheechoo is signed through next season and would be a cap hit of 3 million to any team that desired to pick him up. However, taking a risk on Cheechoo would allow the Kings to not give up any current players, as would be the case if a trade was made. Cheechoo’s statistics have taken a steep downfall since his 56-goal season in 05-06. He flourished in his early years with San Jose, as he and Joe Thornton were one of the most impressive tandems in the league. Yes, Cheechoo has had a miserable season with Ottawa, but didn’t have the surroundings he had in San Jose that made him an offensive threat. But can it work in Los Angeles? It’s pretty safe to say that there aren’t “solidified” lines up front for the Kings as Terry Murray has shown his knack for consistently switching things up. Could this be a solid fit? Would Cheechoo be somewhat rejuvenated to play Winger on the 3rd or 4th line for such a young team in the heart of a playoff race? I question not only what he could bring to the team, but how he could effect the play of others. Cheechoo had plenty of success surrounded by the play-makers in San Jose, is this a possible option for the Kings?

Cheecoo who? There're Clune, Shenn, Parse...no need for that!
  • I wouldn't mind having Cheechoo on the team for a bit. But why was he put on waivers?

please no...he is worthless and i view his coming on board as a distraction. nothing positive will come from this. Such a move would be similiar to the Cliff Ronning and Anson Carter trades. They all backfired!
  • Tell us how you really feel, Joe LOL
